“Is anybody happier because you passed this way??
Does anyone remember that you spoke to him today?
The day is almost over, and its toiling time is through;
Is there anyone to utter now a kindly word of you?
Can you say tonight, with the day that’s slipping fast,
That you helped a single person of the many that you passed?
Is a single heart rejoicing over what you did or said;
Does the man whose hopes were fading, now with courage look ahead?
Did you waste the day, or lose? Was it well or sorely spent?
Did you leave a trail of kindness or a scar of discontent?
As you close your eyes in slumber, do you think that God will say,
“You have earned one more tomorrow by the work you did today.”

The above lines are titled “Daily Reminder” from the book  “Soul Purpose” by author Ms. Lyndall Briggs and Gary Green. This book is a rare gift as it opens up to a whole new world with interesting self-development stories, quotes, and poems.

Every line of the poem comes loaded with strong messages and a powerful exercise of self-reflection and Introspection.When one asks each question to self and the answers we get will be the testimony of the kind of life we are living. We may not get “yes” to all questions but at least if that makes one think and aim to get “yes” to 1/3 of the questions, it makes our lives purposeful.

As said by Shakespeare “ The scent of the Rose lingers on the hand that gives it”. Self-healing happens when one tries to help the other person to heal, recover and move on. The words like hopeless, helpless, depressed (common reasons for many Psychological problems)will lose its significance if we are able to earn another day by making today a meaningful one.
